This glossary can help you prepare for the IELTS writing tasks related to post-school qualifications of Canadians.

administration: noun; The process or activity of running a business, organization, etc.; Example: Administration has declined by 4%.
change: noun; An act or process through which something becomes different.; Example: The most noticeable change in subject percentages is the increase in the number of engineering graduates.
graduate: noun; A person who has successfully completed a course of study or training, especially a person who has been awarded an undergraduate or first academic degree.; Example: The biggest loss in graduate numbers were to Science, Maths and Computers which, as a group, have decreased by 8%.
huge: adjective; Extremely large; enormous.; Example: The first point to note is the huge increase in the number of people with qualifications.
humanities: noun; Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture.; Example: Comparing the two groups, Humanities and Nursing have experienced an increase in popularity with older graduates.
increase: noun; A rise in the size, amount, or degree of something.; Example: The first point to note is the huge increase in the number of people with qualifications.
noticeable: adjective; Easily seen or noticed; clear or apparent.; Example: The most noticeable change in subject percentages is the increase in the number of engineering graduates.
nursing: The profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm.; Example: Nursing rose by 4%. However, the biggest gain was made by engineering, which increased from 9% to 19% of the whole.
post-school qualifications: noun phrase; Qualifications getting after completing school.; Example: These two pie charts show the differences between two groups of Canadians (25 to 35 and 45 to 55 year olds) in terms of their post-school qualifications.
twofold: adjective; Twice as great or as numerous.; Example: To sum up, the graphs show a more than twofold increase in the number of graduates.
